About the Event
In the US, the War Production Board prohibited the manufacture of certain styles of clothing and urged people to "repair and rewear" old clothes, diverting resources from the garment industry to the war effort. The government’s actions affected what people wore -- including wedding gowns. See dresses made from parachutes and mosquito netting. Learn about "cardboard wedding cakes".
