About the Event
Newberry County, formed in 1785 from the Ninety-Six District, was a significant, though less famous, Revolutionary War theater in South Carolina. Its location in the backcountry made it a crossroads for partisan warfare. These skirmishes reflected the divided loyalties of the region, with Newberry residents serving on both sides. The county’s strategic position allowed it to be a route for troop movements and supply lines, making it a logistical crossroads in the Southern campaign. This exhibit is open to the public, free.
